What is an Emotional Quotient (EQ)?
EQ actually stands for Emotional Intelligence Quotient. Much like an intelligence quotient, or IQ, an EQ is said to be a measure of a person’s emotional intelligence. However, there is much debate surrounding the legitimacy of a definition of emotional intelligence quotient, primarily because there is no standard against which it can be measured.

Research on EQ began with Yale psychologist Peter Salovey and John Mayer of the University of New Hampshire in the late 1980s. EQ is a concept that was further popularized by Daniel Goleman, another well-respected psychologist, who has written many books on the subject and is co-chair of The Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations. While these and many other psychology experts view EQ as a scientific study of social behavior and relationships, the actual science behind measuring EQ is often convoluted at best.

Regardless of the actual scientific basis of measuring EQ, the concept is used in many different settings. One particularly popular setting that employs attempts at measuring EQ is the corporate world. Many businesses utilize EQ tests to help their employees determine and measure their emotional responses to various situations. While most corporate EQ tests are administered on the basis that a person’s EQ can be modified or increased, there is dispute about whether emotional intelligence is standard or can be changed.

Currently there are studies being conducted on possible ways that an EQ may affect a person’s abilities to perform under pressure, resolve conflict, and generally cope with challenges. Of course those who are not proponents of the concept believe these abilities are simply a matter of personality, which cannot be measured or modified. Other studies have linked EQ measurements to communication and other social skills that people either lack or possess. www.joozone.com

person’s EQ can be measured using any one of a number of assessments, including one developed by the aforementioned Salovey and Mayer. Some assessments utilize self-given responses while others are peer-given responses. An EQ test may give insight into a person’s personality and psychological make up, but discovering the true meaning of EQ and its relationship to and impact on a person’s life and social performance may be years and many studies away from anything definitive.

Is your intellectual intelligence the greatest predictor of what you?ll accomplish in life?
We have been conditioned to believe that IQ is the best measure of human potential. In the past 10 years, however, researchers have found that this isn't necessarily the case -- that in actuality, your emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) might be a greater predictor of success.
What is emotional intelligence? In the early 1990s, Dr. John Mayer, Ph.D., and Dr. Peter Salovey, Ph.D., introduced the term "emotional intelligence" in the Journal of Personality Assessment. They used this term to describe a person's ability to understand his or her own emotions and the emotions of others and to act appropriately based on this understanding. Then in 1995, psychologist Daniel Goleman popularized this term with his book Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ.
The following test will reveal your emotional reactions to difficult situations and measure your EQ. Each item describes a hypothetical situation. Read through the entire range of responses for each situation and then pick the response that most closely matches the way you would respond.

Why Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is More Important Than IQ
The top five reasons why your EQ determines your success in life
Conventional wisdom has it that there's a direct connection between our IQ and our ability to succeed in life. In school, we're ranked by our GPA. At certain points in grade school, students are given standardized tests that rank them with other students around the country. Schools are obsessed with how their students rank compared to others. A requirement for most colleges is a satisfactory score on the SAT or ACT exam. These tests are basic IQ tests, designed to gauge our math skills and reading comprehension.
But there have been many studies that show IQ only accounts for about 20% of success. The major determinants of success are social and emotional intelligence. Yet there's very little emphasis put on developing emotional intelligence. Only a handful of schools have any formal programs that address emotional intelligence.
In his book Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman says, "People with well-developed emotional skills are also more likely to be content and effective in their lives, mastering the habits of the mind that foster their own productivity; people who cannot marshal some control over their emotional life fight battles that sabotage their ability for focused work and clear thought."

We have an emotional mind and a rational mind. In large part, our emotional mind developed to help us survive. When man first wandered the earth, any time he encountered some new experience, he needed to make instant decisions about whether the encounter involved something that he could eat or something that might try to eat him. Relying on the rational mind, which works much slower than the emotional mind, might have meant the end of mankind. The emotional mind springs into action much quicker than the rational mind. But unless we learn to control the emotional mind, we will make lots of bad decisions and poor choices.
Our emotional intelligence has such a large impact on our success in life, it's important that we fully develop our emotional skills. Here are the top five reasons why your emotional intelligence determines your success in life.
1. EQ has a greater impact on success than other factors.
It has been said that your IQ can land you a job, but your lack of EQ can get you fired. Your IQ only accounts for 20% of your success in life. Your emotional intelligence and social intelligence are much greater determinants of the success you will achieve in life.
2. The ability to delay gratification is a primary indicator of future success.
Delayed gratification is the top predictor of future success. People who are able to pay the price today and delay the rewards are much more likely to succeed in life. Unfortunately we have become a nation seeking instant gratification. This shows up in our everyday lives in the foods we choose to eat, the buy now pay later way of life, our inability to follow an exercise regime and putting mindless entertainment ahead of self-development.

3. High EQ leads to healthy relationships with others.
Our emotional skills have a direct and important bearing on our relationships with others. We need to understand our feelings, where they come from and how to properly express them. We will not maintain healthy relationships unless we can control our emotions, communicate our feelings in a constructive manner and understand the feelings of others.
4. Emotional health impacts physical health.
There is a direct connection between our emotional health and our physical health. If our lives are filled with stress, our physical health suffers. It has been estimated that well over 80% of our health problems are stress related. We experience stress primarily because we are not comfortable emotionally. We need to understand the link between our emotional health and our physical health.
5. Poor EQ is linked to crime and other unethical behaviors.

Unfortunately, there's a direct connection between poor emotional skills and the rising crime rate. Children who have poor emotional skills become social outcasts at a very young age. They might be the class bully because of a hot temper. They may have learned to react with fists rather than reason. Poor social and emotional skills contribute to poor attention in class and feelings of frustration. Such students rapidly fall behind and make friends with others in the same boat. The path to crime starts early in life. While there's no doubt that family and environment are strong contributors, the common thread is poor emotional and social skills.
This is one case where an ounce of prevention would certainly be worth a pound of cure. The cost of intervention when a child is in grade school is minor compared to the cost to jail them in their teens and twenties.

So how do we develop emotional intelligence?
We need to know our emotions. We need to develop self-awareness -- the ability to recognize feelings as they happen.
We must learn how to manage our emotions. Unless we learn to manage our emotions we will constantly be battling feelings of gloom and distress.
We must learn to motivate ourselves. Learn emotional self-control -- to delay gratification.
If we are to succeed in life, we need to learn to recognize emotions in others. We need to develop empathy. We need to be attuned to what others want or need.
And we need to develop our emotional intelligence so we are capable of healthy relationships.

At represent , it seems to focus on one debate which one is more important between EQ and IQ.
For me, I'd like to talk about it with the word that every coin has two sides. You know, when it comes to study, more or less, we just know that IQ is very important , if someone has high IQ, it is easy for him to study well and get relative praises. Out of question, high score is necessary. On the other hand, if a student just lose himself in study, without knowing other thing else

给你打个比方吧,很多想到“许多”就用many,但是你别忘了many a ;handsome;massive,innumerable;很多人想到“专家”就写expert,但很少人会想到specialist,很多人在想到“擅长”这词,就写be good at ,却不知还有更高级的表达法:be expert at 或者excel in ……

IQ, EQ and other Q In layman's terms, IQ refers to the degree of a person's smart, EQ refers to the people control emotions, the ability to adapt to the environment. Of course, after following the EQ, MQ (Moral Quotient), SQ (Success Quotient) also have appeared, but also stimulated the curiosity of the public on these Q. Enthusiasm of young people just beginning to cause a variety of popular magazines on the lace quiz to know if my Q are sufficient to guarantee success; many parents want their children to a comprehensive check to see whether the son of Jackie Chan, the daughter can become Phoenix; children to school, some schools require parents to show children's IQ as a basis for admission; some teachers did not forget the children to learn to keep up to test an IQ, Fortunately, when the teaching evaluation good show ... ... to a certain extent, IQ, EQ and other Q seems to have become a description, explanation, prediction of success and failure of the magic weapon. However, IQ, EQ and other Q who really can determine success or failure of it? From IQ after the birth of the 20th century, this problem has been in debate among diverse. Number of longitudinal study that lasted for decades that, IQ does not determine and predict the success or failure of people, as long as above average intelligence, the individual may have in learning, career and life success; and, in the achievement of individual factors, to the language and mathematical logic at the core of the traditional intellectual factors accounted for only part of the motivation, ambition, willpower, flexibility, social skills, leadership and other large non-intelligence factors are extremely important value. To do this, people try to create a EQ, MQ, SQ, IQ to make up for lack of trying, trying to meet the aspirations of the people predict the development of life. So people talked about a wide range of Q, an important reason for hope is the easiest way to find the certainty of life. With the technology, economic development and rapid social change, people feel pressure in their daily lives and increasing the life course more and more variables, these factors have led to a widespread hope to take the help of simple figures the psychological needs of life track. Indeed, within a certain range, by means of scientific tools and procedures for the evaluation of mental ability that can help people to groups as a reference, relative to an objective understanding of their own. However, human development is very complex, always been from the individuals themselves, family, school, workplace and social macro-environment, and many other factors, in constant dynamic change, therefore, rely solely on static, simple figures live in real life is difficult to grasp the development of individual tracks. Moreover, the evaluation of each mental ability, in theory, have some bias and limitations exist in a variety of evaluation are often technically inadequate, it is often difficult for a specific individual, and its explanatory power is limited. Therefore, not only have invented the IQ, EQ, MQ, SQ, and so can not be predicted and decisions in life, even if the re-invention of dozens of people, hundreds of Q, is still unable to determine human development. After all, people can not revert to a bunch of numbers. IQ, EQ is just recognition of individuals who have been supporting development tool. Q addiction should be resting on the.

U.K.(the UnitedKingdom)、U.S.A(United States of America)等也不能拆开移 行。

Williams,Mrs. Bush, Professor Li, Dr. Smith, Dear Mum and Dad Dear Sir orMadam, To whom it may concern。

It will be +before +S+V.如: It will be many years before nature can restore its balance. She rushed out of the room before I had time to explain. What surprised (worried, disappointed, impressed?)me most is that?. What I need(want, worry about, hope?)is that?.

  (4)It is 形容词或过去分词+that—clause句型。

  (5)It happened that+S+V

(6)强调句型:It is(was)+被强调成分+that/who+句子的其它成分。如:It was in Australia that I picked up my English.
